The Gouldings in Ireland were distributed over several counties from their origins - which I have not yet retraced back far enough. The particular branch of the family from which I am descended were settled in the small village (three pubs, a few cottages and scattered farms and the inevitable Catholic church) of Behola which is not on all maps. It is situated between Knock (where there is a sacred shrine) and Westport, on the Western coast of ireland in County Mayo. I shall be visitng Behola some time during 2003 to examine the church records and registers. If John C. Goulding is related I will keep you informed.
