Hi Stan

The situation is that I contacted a Rob Gould in CA who 1. believes that he is descended from both Zacchaeus G. and John G the Crusader - directly. 2. an ancestor belongs to the Gould y-DNA project on FTDNA. Since I also belong to this y-DNA project, I compared his y-DNA record to mine - while they're similar, a number of markers differ by 1, 2, or 3 mutations - at a guess, while we're related, our MCRA is several 1000 years in the past. If 1. is true, then I'm not related to either family back for a few 1000 years.

I wonder whether you have considered joining the FTDNA y-DNA project. It might resolve a few issues
