Sorry I misspoke. Silas Gould and Silas Briggs should both be in the 1860 index. I was thinking of another census record. Generally I indicate the exact spelling and names I find in this or that census. Ancestry allows you to put in any data you want in searching. The more specific you are the fewer records to look through until you find what you want. Too much detail and it can leave out the one you are looking for.
If you can't find the head of the household look for someone else you know was a member.
It was a common practice in the 1900's for people, usually men, to use only their first and middle initials such as S. D. Smith, G. Brown, etc
