A county history of Clayton County says John Gould was murdered in 1850. Jeremiah was involved in his probate.
John sold land to Joel Gould in St. Lawrence County, New York.
In 1820 a man named Jeremiah Gould was living in Hopkinton, St. Lawrence Co., New York; the town Joel was still living in at the time of his death in 1869. I have no evidence that Joel ever lived in Iowa.
Carlton Sanford's book says that John Gould lived in Oswego County, New York prior to going to Iowa.
There is more. It sounds like we are talking about the same men.
