William GOUGH and Letitia PRINCE are my direct ancestors. Although, I am descended through their son Thomas Henry Benton GOUGH. I don't have any information on your line but I can give you information for when your line ties into mine. William was born abt 1794 by calculating from census data. He was a Private on the company muster roll for Perkin's 7th Battalion, Mississippi Militia in the War of 1812. He served from 23 Sep 1814 to 22 Mar 1815. His name is spelled GOFF on muster rolls. His declaration for pension lists him as a resident of Clarke Co., Mississippi, wife Letitia PRINCE, married in Jasper Co., MS the 4 Feb 1836. It also gives a description of him: 5'10", dark complexion, dark hair and eyes. He, along with a Henry PRINCE, signed the 1817 Alabama Territory Petition (source: "Residents of the Southwestern Mississippi Territory" by Jean Strickland.) This Henry PRINCE plays an important role. Henry not only signed this petition along with William, but they became neighbors and (I believe but can't prove)William eventually married Henry's daughter Letitia. In 1837 William bought land in Jasper, MS. The land record lists him as being from Jones Co., MS. William is listed on the 1840 Jasper, MS census. In 1841 William again bought land in Jasper, MS. The 1850 Jasper, MS census lists William as being born in Georgia, however the 1860 Clarke, MS census lists him as born in Kentucky. Last, but not least, William GOUGH was the administrator of Henry PRINCE's will. The notice was given in the "Jasper Co., MS, Paulding Newspaper Items," February 13, 1861, p. 61. If this is not pointing towards William being Henry PRINCE's son-in-law, then I don't know what is. Henry's wife is Matilda. Notify Administrator about this message?
