This is what I know about our Gottesmans: George (I think that was an Americanized name) Gottesman was born in "Austria" (I think that means Galicia) in 1861 and spoke Polish. He married Bertha Brodfeld (?) b. about 1866-69 in 1890 in Europe and they emigrated to NYC in June of 1890. George Gottesman was a merchant of eggs & butter on the Lower East Side of NYC. Son Julius (known as Joe) was born in NY July 21, 1891. He became a doctor. Daughters Sophia and Fannie were born 1893 and 1897. Fannie married Karl Guggenheim. I am trying to find out what town they came from. Does anyone know anything about Landsmanschaftn of the towns that other Gottesmans came from that might help find their cemetary records in NY?
