Goddards/Gothards from SC to GA mid 1800's

I am a descendant of Robert Marshall Goddard, who was born in SC and settled in Dekalb County, GA. He has been a dead end for quite some time. He was born in 1844 and passed away in 1911. The first real documentation I have on him is from October 1862 when he enlisted with the Dekalb Co. Silver Greys, a Confederate unit. Any suggestions appreciated. He married Josephine Tweedell in 1868. Their children were: Donnie, Robert Marshall Jr., Cossie, John M., Mary, and Fannie.
