Gothards in Cambridgeshire, England
I am writing from Port Dover, Ontario, Canada, a small town on the north shore of Lake Erie.
I have the Gothard family name on my mother’s side of the family, originally from Ely (sometimes Isle of Ely) in Cambridgeshire.
The earliest is Richard and Elizabeth Gothard (b. Ely, about 1812);
their daughter Maria Gothard (1842, Ely);
she married Reuben Smith,
they had a son Richard William Gothard Smith (Chesterton, Cambridgeshire, abt 1871;
he married Maria Wilmot 1894 in Streatham, London;
they had a son Sydney Albert Gothard Smith (London 1900);
he married Helena Winnifred Wildeman abt 1920;
they had a daughter Joan Maria Gothard Smith London, 1927;
she married Coben Harold Adams, a Canadian soldier, in 1945;
and they had me!
I also have a link to the Townsend family in Chesterton about 1849.
So, do you think we have any common connections or have you found any loose ends that might link up with my branch?
