Spartanburg, South Carolina newspaper Spartanburg Herald, Wednesday, November 1, 1944 I. H. Gossett Chesnee, October 31 – Irvin Horatio Gossett, 67, prominent residence of the Brooklyn section near Chesnee died last night at his home after a two week illness. Mr. Gossett was a trustee of the Brooklyn school for a number of years. He was a member of the Methodist church and took an active part in civic affairs of the community. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Margaret Gossett; three sons, Paul T. Gossett of Wellford, W. A. Gossett of Chesnee and T/S Paul L. Gossett overseas; four daughters, Mrs. J. B. Adams, Mrs. C. W. McGinnis and Mrs. T. G. Kennedy, all of Chesnee route 1, and Miss Mary E. Gossett, at home; 24 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m., Thursday at the Trinity Methodist church by the Rev. J. P. Brooks, assisted by the Rev. Hartley and the Rev. N. M. Phillips. The body will remain at the Blackwell funeral home until noon Thursday when it will be taken to the church to lie in state until the hour of service.
