Looking for any information on William GOSSE born 1714 in Ringwood, Hampshire, England. Married Elizabeth CORBIN and had att least two children, Sarah born 19 Mar 1793, and John 2 July 1767. Williams father was Henry born 1690.
Records show William as a partner in 1725 owning 40 ships in the company owned by Kemp, Fryer, Gosse, & Pack,, located in Carbonear(Conception Bay). Ringwood dealers furnished supplies including beer, cloth, vegetables, cooperage equipment, as well as fur traps, to Poole merchants. In the 1760s and 70s, Lesters dealt with Ringwood men such as Henry Goss (a cloth dealer), Simon Lannis (a cooper), Abraham Lane and Mr. Mansfield (grocers), Joseph Fryer (a brewer), Mr. Christopher Cobb (an apothecary and grocer), and Mr. Veal (a supplier of traps and beams). Other Ringwood firms included Wm. Clarke and Capt. W. Handcock, who were active on the north east coast of Newfoundland 1754-1794, and William Gosse, who formed a partnership with William Fryer of Wimborne Minster and Robert Pack (as Newfoundland agent), in one of Poole's larger Newfoundland companies, in 1815-1837. Using the name Fryer, Gosse and Pack and based in Carbonear, this company in 1824 operated twelve vessels (1747 tons) and were in this respect second among Poole merchants only to the trade of George Garland.
