I have a little information on Ferdinand Gorgas.

Jefferson County, Indiana (Madison) marriage license: Ferdinand J. S. Gorgas m. Anna E. Swornstedt in Madison on 5 Oct. 1858

Madison Daily Courier, 26 Mar. 1857, F.J.S. Gorgas is a graduate of the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery and has attended a course of medical lectures at the University of Maryland. Office in old rooms lately occupied by Slayton & Gorgas, corner of Main Cross & West Sts.

I am not related but am trying to determine if Ferdinand is a brother to Joseph Gorgas, a photographer. Joseph R. Gorgas (b. Feb. 7, 1829 Westmoreland Co. Pennsylvania; d. April 6, 1903, Madison, Indiana) was a son of William and Ann Gorgas. He married Belle Lowe (Madison, Mar. 19, 1861) and 2nd Delphina Verry (Madison, Oct. 18, 1865). He had one daughter, Anna who married Edward E. Powell.

Joseph was a photographer from 1854-about 1900, and worked with an unnamed brother on a floating daguerreotype barge that travelled the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers. Since many daguerreotypists were also dentists, I have wondered if Ferdinand was the unnamed brother.

Please let me know if you would like further information or if you have determined Ferdinand's lineage.
