Dear Clara,
I have been in comtact with Don Gorecki of Taunton.
He and I have exchanged information but he didn't tell me about
the Reunion this summer. I will try to get things together for you.
My grandmother was Mary Geraskey who married Albert Mather. Her father
was John Geraskey who married Anna Rosentreter all lived in Lemont,
Illinois. John, Anna and Mary were listed in the 1869 passenger list
as having last name Gorecki. The listing looks like
Gorecki, John26 M Farmer ..... CH (my great grandfather)
Anna26 F Farmer...... CH (my great grandmother)
Marianna1 F child....... CH (my grandmother)
Gorecki, Stan.52 M Farmer...... CH
Marianna47 F Farmer...... CH
Jacob18 M Farmer...... Ch (your great grandfather)
I beleive that this Jacob is your great grandfather and that Stan.
and Marianna are your great great grandparents. This does not prove
that John and Jacob are brothers but it strongly suggests that. The
names occur in a block just as I have typed, together with many other
names. The lines continue with Pr000 which means that they are all from
Prussia. The CH at the end means that their destination was Chicago.
There are others with the name Goreckye destined for Detroit and
Chicago, I think they are all part of the same family. It appears
that the name Gorecki (John) changed into Geraskey in Lemont.
There are numerous occurrances of different spellings.
I think I have found the names in records (pre 1869) in and near Tuchola which
is in modern day Poland. The records have the name spelled in several ways and
I'm not sure of what it means. One spelling that is very similar to Geraskey is
Gierszewski. And there is an example of a Gierszewski marring a Gorecki. It is
possibly that my great grandfather John's family and your Jacob's family were
only related through marriage inand near Tuchola. I will send copies of these
records, if you send me your address.
I plan a trip to France and Germany and possibly/probably to Tuchola
sometime in the next couple years. I will include Tuchela's web page for you:

I am relatively sure of these records since my great grandmother
Anna Rosentreter Geraskey's brother August Rosentreter occurs with the
birth of his first child (correct date, etc).
Your great grandfather Jacob was married to Rose Gladdis (I hope we are
talking about the same family?) in Lemont and I have a copy of that record and
the birth records of several of their children.I have been in contact with a
relative of the Gladdis (Gladdys) family who lives in central Illinois.I know
more about my family descended from John and Anna. I will send a group
photograph including John, Anna and my grandmother Mary (also my father
Herman).
I would like to share whatever information I have of interest to you.
Do you have any old photographs, such as of Jacob and Rose and their children? I
collect (copies) of family photographs. Don didn't know where Jacob was burried,
and I have no idea about Stan. and Marianna. My great grandparents John and Anna
are burried in St. Alphonsus Church cemetery in Lemont.
I was born in 1940 in Joliet,Illinois and lived in LaGrange and Downers Grove,
Illinois from 1940 to 1970. I never lived in Lemont but spent a lot of time
visiting relatives in the past and even now I get back about once a year to
visit. I have a friend whose sister lives in Tyler and I have visited her and
her family in Tyler. Jolean Faaborg is her name and they live not very far from
you. You may even know her or her husband Dennis. If I am welcome, I will try to
get to the reunion this summer.
Looking foreward to your reply,
Dave
