I am interested in your posting...I am researching a clients lineage and one of her direct ancestors is a William C. Gore, born 22 Apr 1807 in Monroe Co., VA and supposedly died 6 Dec 1871 in Tipton Co., Indiana.
I have traced this William Gore thru his 1850-1860-1870 census years.
In 1850, he was living in Jefferson Twp., Tipton Co., Indiana, age 42.His wife is listed as Jane and internet sources have revealed her to be Jane Unicia Farley. I feel that there might have been a prior marriage for William because there is a good gap in his childrens ages. His children on the 1850 census are: Eldard (should have said Eldred) age 18 (male), Ruhana or Ruhama age 13, Mary age 8, John age 4, and Mercy age 1.
Do you think we have a match on this William C. Gore?
I found his name mentioned in Ancestry.com under "Several Articles from James Gore". It is my understanding that someone pieced together about 7 articles about James and created one long article about him which I have printed. In this article there is a transcription of James Gore's Will in which he mentions bequeathing to William C. Gore. He is listed LAST among James's children's names but it is unclear if he is his son or another type of relative. The way it is written leaves you wondering which is where I am at in my research.
I am interested in your thoughts. You may have solved his prior marriage delima if we have a match.
