I have a wild theory that the Joshua Gore who was born (as near as we can tell) in 1710 who moved to the North Carolina area near Wilmington (supposedly from Virginia) might in fact be a William Gore, the son of Joseph Joshua GORE , Jr. from Middlesex Co., Virginia using his father's given name of Joshua.
The wild speculative theory is this. The son of Joseph Joshua GORE , Jr. (b. 1675 in Middlesex Co., Virginia) first has a wife Mary ALLISON b: Oct 1671
and with her has the children:
• Sarah GORE
• Mary GORE
• Margaret GORE
• Elizabeth GORE b: 1689/1698
• John GOAR b: 1700 in Virginia
We know he then has a second wife (not sure if the first wife died or they divorced according to the online records)
And then marries a Lucretia Tugwell b: 1694
With her she has the children
• Ann GORE
• William GORE b: 8 Mar 1710
• Joseph GORE b: 3 Nov 1717
• Henry GORE b: 16 May 1719
• Lucretia GORE b: 12 Feb 1720
• Josee GORE b: 1 Jun 1724
What if that William Gore which was born March 8, 1710 in Middlesex Co., Virginia and who marries a Lucy Crockford on May 19, 1732 in Middlesex Co., Virginia and then they both move to North Carolina and he adopts using his father's given name?
They both disappear from the records in VA seems.
What if that couple moved to the aforementioned NC area from VA already married and he begins adopts his father's given name and thus is now "Joshua Gore"...?
This couple (Joshua and ??) shows up just before 1735 in North Carolina and they begin having kids and suddenly these kids start showing up in the records begins with a
• Jonathan Gore b: ABT 1735
• John R GORE b: 1747 in Duplin County, North Carolina
• William H. GORE b: 27 Mar 1753 in Pireway, Brunswick County, North Carolina
• James GORE b: 1 Jan 1760
According to the research of Janet Woodard this holy grail of a Joshua Gore born about 1710?? person migrated to Duplin County, NC around 1735, it is thought from Virginia. Many of his descendants stayed in North and South Carolina, others went to Florida and and other points west.
This William "Joshua" Gore's father, Joseph Joshua GORE , Jr. back in VA comes from a long line of Joshua Gore's and William Gore's etc. and whose other kids (as we know) stay in the area and have lines we can trace to the present day.
This "Joshua" Gore (William) is now in North Carolina, and we can trace most of his family to the present day as well. The naming of his kids would all track with carrying on given names of his brothers and sisters (and his grandparents as well).
This in essence could be a "missing bridge" if you will which ties those disparate branches together, ties up the timelines and would support the numerous accounts which suggest that this "Joshua" Gore came form the Virginia area and also "solves" what happened to the William Gore in VA who marries and that couple drops out of the records there.
Wild and wholly speculative theory I grant you, and one not backed up by hard evidence. Just thought I would toss that grenade out there.
