Gore Family from Joseph 1797/1799 to 1844 or 1884
Hi,
We recently started doing research on our family using a family chart we think was put together by a family member around 1989, when we held a family reunion in Independence MO.Have been reading through various genealogy Web sites gathering bits and pieces of information and began posting on some tonight.A new friend, a fellow researcher, sent me some information based on an 1831 Gore Family Bible that corresponds to much of the information on our chart. Will try to make our list as clear as possible and would appreciate receiving any information you might have on the people listed, especially confirmations, locations, etc.
Thanks in advance for any help...this has been a very interesting search and I've enjoyed reading so much of the information and correspondence! The info recorded first is from our chart, if there's a slash then the next info is the comparison with the 1831 Bible. Here we go!
I.Joseph 1797/1799 to 1884/1844 m Margris/Margret/ Margaret (no last name) 1798-1846 in York PA 1818.They would be my ggg grandparents, I think!Although there's reference to them in the 1831 Bible, I've found nothing else about them.I did research the Wyoming Valley Massacre of 7/3/1778 and found some Gore's listed; based on the dates and location, they could possibly be relatives of Joseph's parents, but I've found nothing on that or them.Gore's at the Massacre were:
Died:Ensigns - Asa, Silas; Privates - George.
Survived: Field Officer - Lt. Daniel; Private - Samuel.
II.Children:John 1819-1884, we thought he married a Mahatha/Martha 1818-1904, but believe now that she is a sister; Rabecka/Rebecca 1821-?; Elizabeth 1824-?; Polly 1826-?; Fanny 1829-?; Ambrose 1836-? who left in 1853 and was never heard from again. The Bible info has their date of death, but we've had some computer problems and I don't have that at my fingertips; however, the names and birth years are identical...Praise the Lord!
III.Grandchildren, through John (my gg grandfather). We just can't tell for sure if the next generation are all his children or not, but it looks like only his are listed:
A. Ervin 1838-1904: Ervin's children - John; Ella m an Allan; Etta m a Benizer; Robert 1861-1932 m ? - Robert's Children - Ann m a Giunta, Valentine may have d in L.A. in 1973 -- one of them had a son, Robert (ggg grandson of Joseph)
B. Valentine 1840-1890 (my g grandfather) m Leona McGahee in Terre Haute IOWA in 1859.She later m an Evans. We have a picture of her around 1921 or 24 with their son and family (my grandparents, dad, aunts, uncles).
Valentine & Leona's children -
1. George 1871-1933 m Anna Mae Kenny 1916 - George & Anna's children were Thelma 1916, Verna 1918, Anna 1920, Katheryn 1922, Marie 1927.
2. Jim 1873-1926 never married
3. Joe (J.P., Joseph Pearl) (my grandfather) 1875-1941 m Georgie and had 4 chidren with her - Ida, Ilda (also have a picture), Ruby m a King, Mary m a Podem. Then Joe m my grandmother, Stella May Sibole 1892-1979 in 1908.
They had 7 children:
Genevieve 1910-1997 m Enos Carr; Geraldine 1912 - present m W.J.'Jack' Wilson; Gwendolyn 1913-1943 or 44 m Robert Wilson; Eugene Valentine Decatur Gore, Sr 1915-1998 (my dad) m Dorothy Lighthiser (sp) and then m my mom, Lucille Elaine Russell 1923-1999; J.P.(Joseph Pearl,'Pete') 1917-1992 m twice, 2nd to Betty; Francis 1919-late 1980's m a McAnally, a Bethel, and Bill Boyle; Charles Edward 1924 to present m Vera Lee.All had children and we are in the process of putting names and dates into our family record.
4. Molly 1879-1890
5. Louis 1884-1952 m Beulah Roger 1888-1953 m in 1907, lived in Mena AR, Children - Hugh 1909-1972, Paul 1912-1984, Leona 1913-1976
Our family lore has it that Grandpa Joe Gore was one of 22 children, although not all grew to adulthood! These are the only ones on our list.
IV. Cerorn (Bible has different spelling and I think more info) 1848 m ?: Children - Ora, Nora m a Morehouse
V.Zedaric, his obituary is on the Genealogy.com Forum and has spelling of Zedrick with b 12/6/1853 in IL, moved with parents (not named) to IA in 1856, d 8/31/1921 in CO, returned to Decatur County, IA for burial. No marriage info, our list (confirmed by obituary notice) shows children as - Minnie 1880-1958 m J.N. Atkins, Emmet, Mae, Bird, Roy, Bryan.
VI.Orphie Gore 1856-1901 m a Smith and a Fulton, but it may have been to Mr. Fulton first and then to Mr. Smith, children - Floyd Smith 1883-1954, Carr (sp) Fulton.
I've tried to figure out how to make this as clear as possible and am not sure this was it!!!But, thanks for reading it, I hope you will find it helpful in your search, and please let me know if you have any information to add.
God bless you all,
Charlene Gore Trought
