GORES OF NORTH CAROLINA EARLY 1800's
Lewis William Gore was born in 1835 near the present Shallotte in Shallotte District, Brunswick County, North Carolina. He was the son of Isaac (b. 1815)and Dorcas (Brown)Gore. It is said (unconfirmed) that his grandfather and ggrandfather were both named Joseph.Dorcas supposedly died when Lewis was a child, sometime between 1835 and 1842.the family was living in Wilmington District, Brunswick County, No. Car. when Lewis left home.Lewis left home when he was only 14 or 15.At least he does not show up in the census of 1850, when he was 15.He apparently left home because he did not like his stepmother, whose name was Margaret (last name ? b. 1827), nor her son, who was about the same age as Lewis.Family legend has Lewis attacking this other boy with an axe, throwing it at him, then running before knowing the outcome.Family legend also states that Lewis' father, Isaac, married once and possibly twice more after Margaret's death. When Lewis left Nor. Car. he went to Miss.He did not stay there very long.In 1858 he was in Sevier County, Ark.He mar. Ann Elizabeth Green in 1858 in DeQueen, Ark. and they had 13 children.Any info about Isaac's family, the two previous Josephs, etc. would be much appreciated.Am stuck at this point.
