Died in Leon county, Middle Florida, on the 12th February last, 1836, at the house of the
Rev. Wesley Forbs, a local deacon of the M .. E. Church, Mrs. Percey Gordon (who was
mother-in-law to said Forbs), aged 64 years and about 8 months, and wife of the Rev.
Benjamin Gordon, late of the Georgia Annual Conference. Sister Gordon was born of
respectable parents in the state of North-Carolina, Dobbs county,. She was the daughter
of Mr. Meannau and Elizabeth Patrick. Mrs. P. had united herself to the Baptist Church,
as it seemed at the time that there was no other preaching near her. The itinerant
preachers of the M. E. Church came into that section of country. Our beloved sister Percey
Gordon was married to the Rev. Thomas Smith of the Virginia conference, in the 17th year
of her age; and in 1796, brother Smith removed to the state of Georgia, and settled in the
county of Washington. Brother Smith died in 1807, and in 1809 she was married to the
Rev. Benjamin Gordon, then of the South Carolina conference. Brother Gordon died
March 31st 1833. In this life she raised seven children to be men and women grown, and
lived to see them all members of the M. E. Church. J as. Hutto. Monticello, Flor., April
