At this point I need some dates.I have a William Gordon born in Pennsylvania living in my John Stirling Gordon Senior household.I am currently working on the Gordon line. The second daughter of John Stirling Gordon was named Laura Addicks Gordon.I have been tracking Laura Butcher Addicks and have found that her brothers were in business with a William Gordon.Actually, Laura's brother's name was Howard. At this point there are too many William Gordons in Philly to tell who's who.
Let me give you some dates. There appears to be a John Stirling Gordon boarder age 17 from Ireland in the 1850 census. He was born about 1833 in either Ireland or Scotland. He married Elizabeth Jane Bell about 1860 and they appear to have a child Alexander Robert Gordon in the 1860 census. In 1870 the family consists of Matilda, Laura, John, Robert A. and William.James Walker and William Bell also resided in the household and I have been tracking that they are probably related. In the second enermation of Philly William Bell appears to have been married to Martha and Robert A.Gordon age 1 is missing. In 1880, there's also an John Erskine in the household.
Occupations:John Stirling Gordon was a drayman, wagoner, collector and watchman. The James Walker, and William Bell appear to be in the grocery business, as was Laura Butcher's father and brothers.
There's enough coincidences in names with these people and your people that I would not rule the possibility that they are related.
Do you have addresses?Give me some more clues.
