Gordons in Missouri, Arkansas, and Oklahoma
I am trying to locate information on my Gordons. What i have so far is Jasper and Vanne Gordon (believed to be full cherokees)born circa 1840s in possibly MO last known to be living in Siloam Springs, Ark 1900s. They had at least two known children: Frank Gordon-who married Wanda Unknown, Frank had one known child, Raymond Gordon who died in 2000.
Charles H "Charley" Gordon born 7/8/1861/6 Polk Co. Missouri (died at 97 years old in Tahlequah, OK), married Anna "Annie" White (daughter of John White and Martha Matlock)b: 2/14/1869; married on 3/5/1891 in Boone Co, Arkansas. Their children were as follows:
Nora & Dora (twins, born 1/24/1900)in a tent next to a sawmill in Rogers, Arkansas.
Nora died of turberculosis in Hodgen Okla. 3/20/38 when her last baby, Ruby Geneva was 1 mo. old.Dora died in Cushing, Oklahoma in 1987.
Louise Gordon, married Jesse Westmoreland
Their kids: Virgil, Lloyd, Jim, & Ann Clark Gordon married Maggie Graham-
Claud Gordon married Edith Clutter
Clyde Gordon married Jessie Lee Rape (my cousin's mom says Jessie was Creek Indian, they had 5 kids when my mom met them, they lived in Fort Gibson where he worked for the railroad & lived in railroad housing)
Nora Gordon marriedWilliam Mart Ollar
Kids:James Luther Ollar, Frank Ollar, Melba, Dorothy, Doyce, Ruby Geneva (she is the only one still living of these kids).
Dora Gordon married William Henry Pierce
Kids:Odell, Frances (girl), and LC (Luia Cleo- a male)
Ruby Gordon married Fred White - they had 3 kids according to Ann L.
Kids:Russell (no longer living, Julene (who was shot and killed inTexas), & Thelma Louise. When Ruby Gordon died, Louise Gordon raised these kids for her sister.
All of the Gordon children lived in various parts of Oklahoma including Tahlequah, Ft.Gibson, and Cushing. Dora Gordon was married at age 17, in Joplin, MO, which leads me to believe that at some point Charley Gordon and family moved to Missouri from Arkansas before going on to Oklahoma.
Also of note, according to family lore, Jasper Gordon ran away from home after becoming angry with his mother and stepfather, and he assumed the last name Gordon from people that he either worked for or lived with. Supposedly, his real father was a John Ross and there was an uncle Jim Ross, but no one is sure if the John Ross part is true or not, and they did know there was an uncle Jim, but wasn't known if this uncle was Jasper's or his wife's and whether the uncle was on the mother's or father's side. And as things such as family lore goes, none of it may be true. What is known for sure, is that Charley never ever talked about his parents, he in fact, acted secretive about them. Also, persons who are still living that lived with Charley before he died, seem to be secretive or holding something back as well. who knows?
Anyways, any information on the Gordons would be very greatly appreciated
