ARTIE GORDON, Boxer from PA
Have a newspaper article collected by my grandmother showing what I believe may have been a relative of ours.
Of course, the article didn't include the name, place date etc. of where the article came from.
Some serious research (lol) was used to make the following determinations from information in the article:
Boxers' names: ARTIE GORDON (whose pix is in the article)
Harry Curley, Billy Ramsey, Willie Davis, Andy Garry & Larry Regan + a few more.
Places: Turn Hall Arena, Linden, South Broad Street, Reid Street.
Articles on back of newspaperare Notes from Roselle, Madison, US.Junior Naval Reserve Delozier Davidson Post, & Police Court Notes from Philadelphia.
Map Quest found me Philadelphia, PA. where Reid & South Broad Street exist.
Deduction:A Philadelphia,PA newspaper.
Communications with a boxer historian found "Curley" boxed around early 1900's to mid 20's.
From notes about a Mrs. Chas. MacQuoid enjoying a cruise through the West Indies on the S.S. Reliance....search on this ship found it cruising exclusively 1926-1928, in Honolulu Harbor May 1,1930, last voyage to Germany 1935, gutted by fire 1938.
Deduction: Time of article between 1926-1934
Can anyone claim my Artie Gordon (probably Artie is a nickname) who was a Boxer from the Gordon Gym located on Reid Street, Philadelphia, PA between 1926-1934?
Believe he is a tie to my Gordon line as I don't think gram located in NH, kept a newspaper article from PA, unless he was a relative and it was sent to her.
Graciously appreciate any input.
