My great grandfather, Charles Frederick Spangenberg, came to New York from Bremen, Germany in 1876. The next info I have on him is when he married Julia Goos(e)man in Nashville, Tennessee in 1878. One of the witnesses signed his name on the marriage certificate as Mr Goosman, possibly her father. Julia was born in Nashville and a sister, Kate, was born in New York. According to their death records in Nashville their father's name is William Goosman, born in Germany, (mother, Mary, born in New York). Julia's death record had (her father) Goosman lined through and Gussman written in. I've found other records (death, cemetery, city directory)but unable to determine a relationship. Other names are; Henry, Frank, Katherine, Hy. There seems to be quite a few spellings of this name and changes in the records.
Does any of my info match anything you have? Please reply by email. Thanks, Larry
