On page 151 in “History of the Goodspeed Family”, by Weston A. Goodspeed, published in 1907, it says:
“Roxina (978) married about 1851 at Port Henry, Essex County, N.Y., Isaac E. Barr, left descendants who live at Dixon, Ill., no further information.”
From the book I extrapolated the following information: (Numbers in parenthesis are book identification numbers)
Roxina (978) is the fourth child and third daughter of Forest Meaker Goodspeed (456), born 2 Jan 1793, and Phebe Elizabeth Fordam, daughter of Adolphus Fordam. Forest was born at Westport, N.Y., and lived most of his life in Exxex County, N.Y.
The children of Forest and Phebe are: Anna, Mary, Rodolphus Hinckley, Roxina, Wesley Van Wagner, Alonzo, Melissa, Apollos, Nettie (a twin), and Henry Madison (a twin).
Forest (456) is the son of Simpson Goodspeed (203), born 1765, at Foster, R.I., and Mercy Hinckley. They married about 1790 at Westport, Essex County, N.Y. Forest died about 1845 at Wooster, O. Mercy died about 1855 at Urbana, Ill. They had twelve children, all born at Westport.
Simpson (203) is the son of Stephen Goodspeed (76), born 25 July 1738, at Attleboro, Mass., and Anna Weatherhead, daughter of Joseph and Wait Brown Weatherhead. They were married 27 Jan 1760, at Scituate, R.I., and had twelve children.
Stephen (76) is the son of Stephen Goodspeed (32), born 17 Sep 1706, at Rochester, Mass., and Bethiah Wooding, daughter of Peter Wooding. They were married in 1731. They had nine children.
Stephen (32) is the son of Nathaniel Goodspeed (10), born 1669 or 1670, and Sarah King, born 1669, daughter of Thomas King, Sr. They were married 21 Dec 1705, at Rochester, Mass. They had four children. Stephen was the firstborn.
Nathaniel (10) is the son of Nathaniel Goodspeed (2), born 6 Oct 1642, at Barnstable, Mass, and Elizabeth Bursley, daughter of John and Joanna Hull Bursley. They were married in Nov 1666 and had two children. Nathaniel (10) was the secondborn. Nathaniel (2) died in May 1670.
Nathaniel (2) is the son of Roger Goodspeed (1) and Alice Layton. They were married in Dec 1641, at Barnstable, Mass. They had seven children. Nathaniel was the firstborn.
The first that is known of Roger is that he moved to Barnstable in 1639. The first that is known of Alice is when she married Roger in 1641. Where in Europe they came from is unknown, but it is likely that they both came from England.
