How far back does the Goodspeed name go?

Saw the answer from Robin, and as far as I recall it's correct. In about 1904 a gent named Weston Goodspeed self-published a Goodspeed genealogy that traced the family from Roger, arrived Barnstable MA about 1639 from Wingrave, England, through 1904.The now-closed goodspeed Book Shop in boston re-published the book about 20 years ago. There also was a New England Genealogical Society article in 1928 that traced the Goodspeeds in Wingrave back to the Nicholas cited by Robin. Both Weston and the Society article concluded that all US Goodspeeds descended from the original Roger (my father being a genealogy buff, he named me after that fellow). Roger's father's will directed that some money should be given to Roger, should he ever "return from the sea."You should try to get a hold of the Weston Goodspeed book. You could probably find your granfather or great grandfather and trace the family back (the book also has lots of old photos).
