Ward Goodspeed
My maternal grandfather, Ward Goodspeed b. 15
Sept. 1913, has a mysterious past and I would like some to fill in the blanks for me.
Family history has it that he was the son of a Bill Goodspeed of either Oneida or Lewis Co., NY. His mother's name has been lost to the past. At the time of Ward's birth, Bill had three or four other sons, the youngest of which was about 25. History also says that for reasons that are now unknown, at a young age Ward was farmed out to a family named Cadwell. He supposedly even had two birth certificates. One was listed as Ward Goodspeed and the other said he was Joe Cadwell. At some point he reclaimed his original birth name of Goodspeed and when it was time to fight for his country in WW2, he did so. Ward died in Oct. 1977 and was buried
with full military honors. I'm not sure where. It is someplace in central NY state. If you have any info concerning Ward, I would be most thankful.
