“Mrs. Nanny Goodson was born at Beaver on March 12, 1894 and became the wife of Ollie Goodson. They had three children: Jessie Raymond, John Elvin and Beulah. Goodson arrived in the community carrying two chairs he had made with maple posts, hickory rungs and seats of split white oak. He approached Lawrence Lilly about selling the chairs and soon Lilly had more orders than Goodson could fill. Eventually these hand crafted chairs sold for the unheard-of price of $15.00 for six.” From “A History of Shady Spring District,” Compiled and Published by Shady Spring District Woman’s Club, 1979, Central Printing, Beckley, W.Va.
