Sandi and cousin Jean, forgive me for jumping in, but you havebeen talking about one of the great Goodson mysteries of the ages.I have an article, in html format, based on material from Norman Covert that proposes the theory that the Georgia Nicholas was not killed at Petersburg, but joined the Fluvanna artillery after a period of sickness that rendered him unfit for infantry service. There is no explanation for why he took a different identity.I personally discount the theory, finding that "Nicholas Goodson" was a common name in Virginia prior to, and during, the Civil War. I can send you the article via email if you wish. It would be great if you could read it and see if you have any information to help clear up this mystery.
