Don't know if this will help, but: I have a Smith ancestor, Ebenezer Smith, born 1751/1756 who lived in Cayuga Co, NY., until migrating to Mich about 1821. His grandaughter, Lydia J Smith, dau of Capt. Isaac L Smith, born 1818 in Cayuga Co., m. James C Goodsell, 1839. I do not know if James Goodsell and Lydia stayed in NY for many years, but Lydia was buried in Waterford, Mi., died 1885. In the History of Cayuga County, a James Goodsell was Minister of the M.E. Church in Owasco after 1848, and I believe our James was a minister, too; just not sure about facts for this family. Also, there are other Goodsells in Cayuga Co.
I will keep an eye out for Orrisa Smith in our family of Smiths, though.
