The Martha Goodman of Cumberland county, Va. 1850 Census that you are requesting info. on was my direct ancestor. Her maiden name was Martha Goodman daughter of Thomas Goodman and Elizabeth Street. She married her first cousin Samuel Goodman in 1815. Samuel was a son of Richard Goodman and Mary Baughn. Samuel Goodman died in 1840 and his widow and several sons are found in the 1860 Census of Lauderdale county, Mississippi. Several of her children moved on to Texas and Marthas' death is found in the 1880 Mortality Schedule of Navarro co., Texas (I believe she died in 1879 and the death was recorded in the 1880 Mortality schedule).
Her son John Goodman that you spoke of married Mary Pope Roberds in Marengo co., Alabama and later settled in Caldwell co., Texas by 1878 where he died in 1908. I am descended directly from Johns' brother Wilson Augustus Goodman who was called "Gus". Gus Goodman went to Navarro co., Texas in 1875....then to San Saba county and then to Llano county where he died in 1888. Marthas' oldest son Alexander Goodman remained in Va. all of his life and Lloyd Goodman and family stayed at Lauderdale co., Miss. Most of the others went to Texas. One son Adelbert (known as "Allen" or "A.E." Goodman was in Texas as late as the 1880s and then returned to Va. and died in Rockingham county in 1902.
I hope this has answered some of your questions.
Carl Martin
