SOUTH DENNIS Annette Burns, age 89, died peacefully Tuesday, April 27, 2010, at Eagle Pond Rehabilitation and Living Center, South Dennis.

The daughter of Harry and Sadie Goodman, Annette was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Sept. 11, 1920. Annette was raised in Coney Island where she met and married her husband of 54 years, Joseph E. Burns, Sr. Coney Island's carnival atmosphere coupled with the influence of her father, a former vaudevillian, likely accounted for Annette's extroverted personality, razor-sharp wit and love of music and dance A homemaker for most of her life, Annette was also employed as a receptionist by her family's physician, Dr. Hans Gottlieb. In 1978 Annette and her husband retired to New Port Richey, Fla. Her husband died in 1995. Annette remained in Florida until December 1998, when she moved to Harwich to be closer to her family.

Annette lived with her son Joseph E. Burns, Jr. and his wife Kathleen Splaine-Burns for eight years. During that time she was an active member of the Harwich Council on Aging where she made many friends. In November 2006 Annette took up residence at Eagle Pond where she remained until her passing. Her family extends their deep gratitude to the staff at Eagle Pond for the care and love they provided her. Annette

leaves behind her son Joseph and his wife Kathleen, her granddaughter Ellen Burns, and great-grand children Noah and Jacqueline Rooney, all of South Dennis. She is also survived by her daughter Patricia Cohen and her husband Irwin of Lakewood, N. J.; and grandchildren Michelle and Alexander Cohen. Annette was predeceased by her brother Albert Goodman.

A funeral service will be held 6 p.m. Sunday, May 2, at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 729 Route 134, South Dennis. Viewing will begin at 3 p.m.
