GOODMANs of Perry & Decatur Co, TN

Some of the ways I've seen GOODMAN spelled in records is GEIDMAN, GOODMIN, GOODMON. Also, I think GOODWIN is often mistaken for GOODMAN and have wondered about GODMAN. I have one record where the county clerk wrote J.D. GOODWIN in the text of a document, and my relative signed J.D. GOODMAN at the bottom. I guess, it's all in how the name is heard by the official writing it down. Somewhere, I read that GOODMAN was originally GUTMAN or GUTTMAN before being Americanized.
I haven't done any research on Thomas G. GOODMAN prior to 1850. Though, I been told his parents were Toliver T. & Margaret "Peggy" (SAUNDERS) GOODMAN, who were married 14 Feb 1821 in Maury Co., TN but have no proof of this. Toliver & Peggy were listed in the 1850 Perry Co., TN (born NC & KY, respectively) census as was Thomas G. GOODMAN and his family. There were other GOODMANs living in Perry Co., TN during 1850, but I don't know if they were related to my bunch. Thomas G. GOODMAN was born in TN circa 1827. So, his parents had to be in TN before then.
BTW, Thomas G. GOODMAN's wife, Mary Ann (MABERY) GOODMAN was still living in 1884 because she gave written permission for her daughter to marry. However, I haven't found her in the 1880 census either. So, maybe there's hope of finding your Daniel GOODMAN. If you can figure out where to look, that is.
