I have some information that was handwritten by my mother, Bonnie Goodloe Moore, based on an interview of Daisy Tucker Goodloe during the 1970's or 1980's.My grandfather was Homer Hartwell Goodloe, the son of Zebedee Goodloe and Anna Connell Goodloe.
Zeb was born on March 11, 1861, and he died on April 23, 1932.He is buried in West Union Cemetery near Dresden in Weakley County, Tennessee. The notes say that Zeb lost both parents during the Civil War.As an orphan, he did not get an education. He spoke of an aunt quite a lot, so perhaps she raised him. There are some jottings that are hard to decipher but seem to say "Zeb's mother probably Nancy" and "sister Nant."He had brothers and sisters, but names are unknown now.He was about 6 feet, 1 inch tall with dark hair and brown eyes and a fair complexion. My mother's notes further state that Zeb came to Weakley County as a young man, where he met Anna Connell. They married around 1886 or 1887.
Anna Connell was born August 28, 1868, and she died on February 5, 1955.She, too, was bured in West Union Cemetery near Dresden. She spent her later years living with her daughter, Fannie Burke, in Paris, Tennessee.Anna's father was Henderson ("Uncle Hen") Riley Connell, a Civil War veteran. His wife was Caroline Kemp.My grandmother described Henderson Connell as a large land owner and a progressive farmer. He raised livestock.Henderson and Caroline had a large home with a portico.Their daughters were Fannie Connell Southerland (perhaps she had a daughter named Ethel?) and Amanda Connell Sims, who lived in Texas (in or near New Boston or Tyler and perhaps had a daugher named Penny). Also on the list is Callie Connell Bradbury, who was married to Bob Bradbury, with daughters Bess Bradbury Ford.Bess had children named Helena and Parnell Ford.Callie may also have had a daughter named Ida.
My mother's notes say that Nancy Southerland (called "Old Aunt Nant") was Zeb's aunt.An arrow points to a note in the margin, which suggests that Nancy Southerland was the mother of Mose and Richard Southerland (half brothers with the same father).Zeb was visiting cousins Mose and Richard Southerland near Gleason (in Weakley County,TN) when he met Anna Connell.Mose Southerland married Fannie Connell, Anna Connell's sister.Mose and Fannie's children were Ethel, Hattie, Wilcie, Clarence, Hattie, and perhaps others.
The children of Zebedee and Anna Connell Goodloe were:
Early - died at a few months of age
Wilburn - died at a few months of age
Fannie Ethel Goodloe (2/27/1891-2/26/1958)
Lina Boyd Goodloe (11/1/1895-8/29/1985)
Luby Dudley Goodloe (8/23/1897-11/11/1984)
Rufus Zebedee Goodloe (7/14/1900-??)
Ollie Goodloe (6/8/1904 - 1918) perhaps 12/16 of 1918
Homer Hartwell Goodloe (8/25/1907-10/28/1976)
Owen Herman Goodloe (12/25/1910-??)
Anna Laverne Goodloe Neihoff (9/7/1914-??)
I have more than that. I would be glad to share e-mails and to correspond.
