Brenda,
The Simeon H. Gooding/Goodwin (known by both spellings) b. April 27, 1819,SC, and d. Mar. 11, 1901, Pierce Co., GA is my gg grandfather. I don't have any concrete info on a William Henry Gooding, b.1826 in my direct line, but I have a lot of holes in my research.I have Simeon's two sons as, Miles, b. 1846, and Lawrence Alfred, b.1850 (my g grandfather).
Another Gooding/Goodwin cousin believes Simeon's father was Barden Gooding, no proof yet, don't know any of Simeon's siblings if Barden is the father. Are you thinking William Henry was a brother of Simeon? What connection do you have between William and Simeon?
Another Genforum contact(Ralph Bridges-see Goodwin list) gave me this info on the other Simeon Gooding/Goodwin born in SC during this time: Simeon b. 1809, and his brother Joshua b. 1807.Their father was Thaddeus Goodwin, b.ca 1780 in Rabun Co.GA/NC.Also the son of Joshua wasnamed Simeon, b. 1829. On the 1840 SC census there is a Simmeon, age 21 and wife Elizabeth, and a William H., age 25 and his wife Elizabeth, these two men were supposedly the married sons of Joshua. Could this be your William Henry? This Simeon, if 21 on the 1840 census could be my Simeon born in 1819, I just don't have any proof of this yet. Dates are often confusing and not accurate on these censuses.
That is all I have on the Simeons in SC.I would appreciate any info that you find on them, as I am at a standstill.
Thanks,
Debbie
