Once again, you are injecting some much-needed skepticism into the Gooding/Randall research.I have not seen the bible you mention.Any way of getting a copy?
As to Abraham's living in Buck Co., I can offer something here:
"Pioneers of the Eighteenth Century Bucks County, Pennsylvania" by Richard T and Mildred C. Williams (1974) includes the following entry:
"The inhabitants of the unorganized district that now comprimises Haycock Twp. several times for a township. In December 1745, they petitioned the second time, when they stated the district contained 'twenty dwellers' ...."The list of names includes Abraham Gooding.Of course, this is not a primary source and there may be another Abraham Gooding around at that time, but its the best that I have at present.A note in the front of the book states, "This book is offered as a basic reference tool, only.It is suggested that further documentation should be sought on the ancestor found. The data herein, is as published by General Davis in 1905."Thus, the authors did not get the data directly from public records, either.
On a side note, I also noticed an Isaac Gooding is repeatedly mentioned amongst the "Gentlemen Freeholders" of Newcastle County (now Lawrence County) in western PA, Pennsylvania Archives, Sixth Series, Volume XI.The entries are from October 1756 and relate to elections, with Isaac Gooding amongst those affixing their seals as witnesses to the documents.Does anyone know who this Isaac Gooding is?As a landholder in 1756, he is clearly NOT the son of Abraham and Elizabeth, but perhaps he was a brother of Abraham?
