Thank you for the reply. I really appreciate the information. In the 4 years since I posted the message I have learned alot. Emma Coke Mahan Bates was my great grandmother. She was sister of Henry Matison Mahan. Since her parents died when she was very young and she was raised by her Goodgame grandparents, I think that is why her daughter, who gave the info on her death certificate, did not have her parents' correct names. Emma was married 3 times (She was not married to M M Bates.) Her sister Sarah was married to Martin Marion Bates. Emma Coke Mahan was born 11 Sept 1854 in Noxubee County, Mississippi and died 8 Feb 1923 in Selma, Dallas County, AL. Her 1st marriage abt 1871 and she had a son William A Cobb Jun 1872. 2nd marriage was to Jim Smith abt 1873 and son Decatur Alexander Smith was born 14 Feb 1874. My great grandfather John Carl Bates was her 3rd husband. They married 2 Dec 1877 in Chilton County, AL and had 9 children. (Martin Marion Bates, Sarah's husband, was brother to John Carl Bates. Their parents were Sidney Bates and Lucinda Honeycutt).
The information you gave on Emma's ancestors agrees with what I have. I did not know when brother John Robert died. I don't have any photos of Emma. I would love to have a copy of those photos you have, either by email or I could pay for you to make copies and send regular mail. If you want more info on Emma's descendants, I would be happy to send what I have. Thanks.
