hi dave

we have, of course, corresponded in the past and am glad to hear from you again.

i am also aware in my 30+ years of research that the use of "sr" and "jr" in the past did not always mean father and son.

i am the one who has called them mackerness goode, sr and mackerness goode, jr here because in this case, they were father and son because that is what the records themselves show, state, and confirm.

again, the following laurens co, sc deeds show that our samuel goode, oldest son of our mackerness goode, sr, who had died intestate there in laurens co, sc, sold his father's our mackerness goode, sr's 100-acre grant and his brother, our mackerness goode, jr sold his own 500-acre grant both to richard shackleford.

laurens co, sc deed book C, page 192, 1789, mackerness goode, gentleman, of edgefield co, sc to richard shackleford, pastor of the baptist church, for 500 pds, 500 acres on the beaverdam creek of little river, original grant 10/ 30/ 1767 bordered on cornelius cargill; david craddock; john box; william arthur. witnesses: samuel goode; joseph cox; francis brooks. silvanus walker, j.p.

laurens co, sc deed book C, page 193, 1789, samuel goode, gentleman, to richard shackleford, pastor of the baptist chuch, for 100 pds, 100 acres on the little river, original grant 4/ 12/ 1771 to mackerness goode, sr, who died intestate and samuel goode, his heir at law. witnesses: joseph cox; francis brooks; alexander stewart. silvanus walker,
j.p.

at the time our mackerness goode, jr sold his own 500- acre-grant there in laurens co, sc to richard shackleford in 1789, he was in edgefield co, sc.

then, again, per the 1793 laurens co, sc deed, when our mackerness goode, jr sold the following land to our related patrick cunningham/ ann harris, he was also still there in edgefield co, sc.

laurens co, sc deed book E, page 76, 1793, mackerness goode, planter, of edgefield co, sc to patrick cunningham, planter, in laurens, for 400 pds sterling, 900 acres on the beaverdam creek of little river in laurens co, sc: 1) 200 acre grant by bull 4/ 12/ 1771; 2) 200 acre grant to william martin, decd, 4/ 29/ 1768 by montague conveyed by reeves martin, oldest son and heir of william martin, decd; 3) 100 acre original grant to william mc laughlin by montague 10/ 13/ 1767, conveyed; 4) 150 acre original grant to samuel caldwell by montague, conveyed by john caldwell, oldest brother and heir of samuel caldwell, decd; 5) 250 acres bordered on christopher rowland; john osborne; john walker; original grant to moses yarbrough by bull 7/15/1768, conveyed. witnesses: james burnside, jr; john bowman; john dunklin. angus campbell, j.p.

this james burnside, jr, who witnessed this 1793 laurens co, sc deed re our mackerness goode, jr, son of our mackerness goode, sr, to our patrick cunningham/ ann harris, was the son of james burnside, sr/ martha rodgers, sister of our john rodgers, sr/ margaret mcnees, parents of our frances rodgers harris, wife of our william harris, jr, son of our william harris, sr/ frances goode.

again, part of the land our mackerness goode, jr sold to our related patrick cunningham/ ann harris was sold to him by reeves martin, who, again, per the info i have also cited was the son of william martin/ frances goode, daughter of our mackerness goode, jr, and who re-married a mr edwards.

again, our frances goode martin edwards was named as a daughter, frances edwards, in our mackerness goode, jr's 1793/ 1795 and, again, our mackerness goode, jr's will also shows that he had several notes with our patrick cunningham/ ann harris.

again, i am the one calling him mackerness goode, jr, son of our mackerness goode, sr, because that is what these deeds and records specifically themselves show, state, and confirm.

there are a number of the laurens co, sc deeds and records that connect our william harris, jr/ frances rodgers also with our related patrick and ann harris cunningham.

here is one of the laurens co, sc deeds showing that our william harris, jr/ frances rodgers and our related patrick cunningham/ ann harris had a grant together there in laurens co, sc.

laurens co, sc deed book F, page 441, 1798, william harris to john cunningham for $85, spanish milled, 200 acres on duncans creek and little river, all my part of 1796 survey to patrick cunningham and william harris for 500 acre grant to said william harris and john cunningham and robert cunningham. witnesses: elijah burgess, thomas redden. zach bailey, j.p., dower renunciation by wife, frances harris. (widow of william harris by 5/13/1799). jonathan downs, j.l.c.

here are also the original laurens co, sc grants for our mackerness goode, sr; his son, our mackerness goode, jr; my/ our william harris, sr/ frances goode; and his son, our william harris, jr/ frances rodgers.

you will note that our related patrick cunningham/ ann harris paid the tax/ memorial for our william harris, sr/ frances goode's 300-acre grant and joseph davenport paid the tax/ memorial for our mackerness goode, sr's 100-acre grant.

per the info, samuel goode, son of our mackerness goode, sr, married jemimah davenport, daughter of joseph davenport who died in newberry co, sc.

so, i have couple of questions for you that i still do not know.

who was the wife of my/ our mackerness goode, sr and if you know, how do you know this?

also, who was the wife of our mackerness goode, sr's son, our mackerness goode, jr, who died there in 1793/ 1795 in edgefield co, sc and same thing, if you know, how do you know this?

thanks so much.
