I am researching Simon S Goode, born in Henry County, Kentucky around 1815. His father was Richard Young Goode, the Son of Major Richard Goode and Rebecca Young. He descends through the Rappahannock Goode Lineage.
He was a lawyer living in Kentucky through about 1853 when his first wife dies, and then I believe he headed West for a few years. He is living in Illinois during the 1860's and dies in Mexico, Missouri in 1868. I have many historical facts about Simon S Goode; known as Colonel Goode in the 1850's and 1860's but cannot piece together his wife and family per the "Virginia Cousins" pedigree.
G Brown Goode in "Virginia Cousins" does not list his first wife at all but lists him as leaving a second wife Emma---- and several children that are living in St. Louis in 1886. I have located the census records for Emma and four of the children for the years 1870 & 1880. However, I have not found any actual documentation linking them to Colonel Simon S Goode before 1870 by marriage or as a family. The newspaper article about his death in 1868, did not list any family, it was about how he was killed.
The children listed as his family in "Virginia Cousins", are Augustus Goode b, abt 1863 in Illinois, Albert Goode, b, abt 1865, in Illinois, and Clarance Goode, b, abt 1868 in Illinois and all living in the city of St. Louis, Missouri for many years thereafter. There was another child listed in the census that died in 1880 named Mattie. Two other children mentioned by Dr. G Brown Goode (Richard & Lola) do not appear anywhere I have looked. I have not found a marriage license/bond or an 1860 census record for the family as of this date either. My research indicates than Dr. Goode may have had this one wrong, and this wife and children belong to another Goode.
I have found some evidence of a first wife by the name of "Martha V Ricketts" who dies in 1853 and they have a child in 1852 named Sallie. There is a death record for her and family tree discussion information about the daughter Sallie Ricketts Goode.
Can anyone shed any clarity or prove any of the alleged second family connections through Emma & Children to Simon S Goode by Dr. G. Brown Goode?
