Gooch is a proud old name! I am familiar with it, as there are many Gooches in Union County, Georgia. The name has been in America since the 1600's, and was originally spelled Gough. It is English, but looks to have a German flavor to it; (I am guessing.) (It was probably originally pronounced "Goosh" and/or "Goff".) There are many resources on the internet to avail you. Start with the following websites, so far as the Gooch family history in America. Goochland Co., VA was named after Sir William Gooch, Royal Lt. Governor of VA in 1728. Here is more on that: http://genforum.genealogy.com/cgi-genforum/forums/gooch.cgi?999 Here is the Goochland Historical Society link: http://www.goochlandhistory.org/ Here are a couple of Gooch Family Genealogy links: http://gooch.accessgenealogy.com/ http://gooch.accessgenealogy.com/favorite_links.html There are severalothers. If I can find them, I will send them to you or post them. Also, keep searching in this Forum, under various key words. Do you know your grandparents' or great-grandparents' names? Where your father's folks came from? Etc. Happy hunting! Notify Administrator about this message?
