The Gathering 2005
This is a note to remind all that we are putting together the final preparations for the 2005 Gathering.
Late August Early September
We propose to hold the gathering in late August/early September 2005, for no other reason than that is when we will have the time to organize it
Tour and a Meal
I am considering a possible tour of the area by coach. If you are interested, please let me know. There is also the possibility of an evening meal (or lunch if preferred) with a speaker on the general topic of family research/ genealogy.
Exhibition and Displays
We will have a small exhibition of Goldstraw and Goostrey memorabilia and there will be CD Roms with all the genealogical info on the web site for sale at a modest fee (we don't intend to make a profit on this).
We have some ideas of our own but I feel that it would be most useful at this stage if we began to have feed back from those who would like to attend.
Where are you coming from?
What would you like to see available ?
Would you like to just "pop in" for a chat, or (particularly those of you who are coming from afar) would you like to make a day/weekend of it? Would you like to have a tour of the ancestral homelands?
Venue
Where to hold the gathering?
Well - we have two distinct types of interested "gatherers". Those who are from overseas, who will undoubtedly have to make this visit part of a longer holiday break and may wish to have a little more laid on than simply a drop in session, and those who live in the UK who themselves are split into those who are local to the areas where the names first appeared and those who live some distance away.
Given that the original areas of interest to Goldstraw's is around the Leek, Cheddleton, Wetley Rocks, Ipstones and other villages near to Leek, it seems logical to hold the venue in that area. I am not forgetting our Goostrey cousins but so far, statistics show that mostly all of the Goostreys are in the USA and therefore will (if they are attending) be making this part of a longer break.
The Queen of the Moorlands (Leek) is a beautiful, if underrated, area and there are a number of sights to see.
I will be posting notes as to public transport at a later date when we get a little feed back. You are on the mailing list - drop me an email with your thoughts, it would be wonderful to hear from you.
Lets have your thoughts.
Martin
