Dear Jack,
Thank you for your response - it is always nice to converse - even if in this case, for me, this is a fringe interest as the Goings are not related to me - but being the reason my ancestor cousin Eustace Cubitt turned up in Cahir.
You should not be discouraged about the lack of activity on the message Board - in my research I have often lost hope & out of the blue someone responds & I have achieved a huge breakthrough in my research. So you have to take a long term view & make sure you can keep your email address alive. Its sooo frustrating to follow up a enticing lead to find the email address is dead!I thought given the date of your post this might have occurred in this case. ;-)
The Quaker thing is something I do not really understand - certainly Ida Burroughes who married WH Going would have been reared as an ardent Church of England worshiper - indeed her Father was a Reverend.
If the Goings are no relations - my Wilson ancestors came from County Down in Ulster (ex Scotland) & certainly it seems doing research on non-Irish names in Ireland is pretty tricky because of all the turmoil there over the years. However, with a bit of luck & using just about every research avenue progress can be made.
You ask about my email - the name came about because I live on a reach of the Brisbane River - which in days past bought shipping right up to the centre of the City.
All the best.Nice to make contact!
