I read with interest your research on the family name. I recently found that several of Grandfather's siblings had their last name recorded in church records as Gogan in the late 1800's in Cleveland, Ohio.
Is there any chance that you would have any information on a John F. Goggin born June 5, 1844, (the year varies with different documents), from County Cork, son of Goggin/Mangan? He immigrated to the US in 1868, and may have already been married to Mary O'Day. His Children were John Thomas, Edward C, Mary Agnes, Catherine, Ella, Stella, William, James Francis or Francis James.
I started my research on the family due to a genetic condition that seems to run in the family. Originally, the only other person in the world with the same condition was in Australia, but spelled his name differently. The doctors at UCLA in California fell certian that we are related to this family, which would seem to indicate that Ireland is the common link. Which means that the family has carried this genetic condition for over 150 years and did not know it. So I have a great interest in being able to track the family back to Ireland in order to be able to better share the genetic information with others in the family that may be unaware of the condition. I would be happy to share any information that I have with you.
