I trace my ancestry back to a John Goffe (1649-1716) who emigrated from England to Boston around 1662. He eventually set up his trade as cordwainer, married Hannah Sumner and sired a family of twelve children. There was a tradition in the family that he was a son of William Goffe and Frances Whalley but no facts have ever been found to substantiate this and his parentage remains unknown.

Currently I am participating in a DNA study seeking to discover a link to John Goffe's ancestors in the UK and the results so far are inconclusive.
