Samuel Jackson Godwin, son of James A.J. Godwin (30 Jan 1815-1860)and Ann Knowling Godwin (1815-???) who were married in Fayette Co., GA 14 Oct 1832, MIGHT have been married to my great grandmother Martha Elizabeth Golden Godwin (24 Dec 1867-d.12 Nov 1952 Brooks Co., GA). The 1870 Census shows him married to Winnie R. with one child, Julia A. age 1, in Scottsboro, Jackson, AL. Mr. Jerry Carter sent me some information indicating that he was first married to Rosetta Kirby who died and then to Winnie and they actually had two children; the other one was Francis Marion Godwin (b.10 Apr 1872 in Macon, GA-d.26 Mar 1958 in Williamson Co., TX).
My Grannie Godwin said when she married Jack Godwin he was an "old man" and she was about 20. He died when she was 29 leaving her with three children in Alabama. After his death, she moved to north FL/south GA with her children. She is in the 1900 Brooks Co., GA census as a 33 year old widow. My Grandfather Cornelius "Jake" Godwin (11 Nov 1887--d.7 Mar 1952 Brooks Co., GA) was her second child and oldest son. Her other son was either Jordan or Gordon Jackson Godwin born in 1892. Her oldest child was Dolley Godwin Strickland born 1885 and died 6 Nov 1922, Colquitt Co., GA. If anyone can give me information about Samuel Jackson's later life, I would be eternally grateful.
