Hi John, I was just checking out the Godby name page and saw your post. My gr. grandmother was a Godby and I have had a hard time tracing her family, but am finally getting somewhere. She came to Canada from England. I have also heard that the Godby's may have originated from an Island by Sweden (I can't remember now, but I think it was Arran Islands?). Anyway, there is a village there called Godby. Sorry, I don't have any info on your Godby's, but I was wondering if you have tried ancestry.com yet? That is a wonderful site to begin your research. I just looked up the name Enoch Godby there and got a return for him living in Burless, Texas. He was born around 1891 and is in the 1920's and 1930's census. He also shows up under a war draft. There was also a John D. Godby in a census, but Enoch is such a rare name, that I imagine he would be quite easy to trace. I no longer have a subscription to ancestry, so I couldn't look into the records for all the details, but the census would list the place of birth (if in USA) or the country of birth (if not USA). Good luck, Cheri Notify Administrator about this message?
