"Amos Goble was born in Pigeon Forge, Sevier County, Tennessee, February 17, 1838. He was the son of Amos and Elizabeth Roberts Goble. He enlisted from Sevier County, September 15, 1862, when 24 years of age. He enlisted as a private in Co. B. 2nd Tennessee Regiment and was later promoted to company blacksmith.
Among the battles were the following: Stone River at Murfreesboro; Kingston; Shelbyville; Chickamauga; Oklana, Mississippi; Decatur, Alabama; near Martinsville; Cortland and Nashville. He was wounded in the right knee in November 1863 while in the battle at Kingston, Tennessee. The accident occurred when his horse ran against a tree while he was mounted. In 1865, while at Decatur, Alabama, he was detailed to go to Nashville, Tennessee. He went there after horses and the journey took five days. He was discharged July 6, 1865 at Nashville.
In February 1866 in Sevier County, he was married to Rilla Gibson. She was the daughter of James and Nancy Perkins Gibson. The following children were born to this union: Nancy C., Samuel H., Rhoda E., Sarah E., William M., and Aaron A. Goble. They were members of the Pleasant Hill Methodist Church, Blount Co. Tennessee. Mr. Goble was a member of the A.C. Catlett Post No. 58, G.A.R. His address was formerly New Knob Creek, Sevier Co. Tennessee.
Mr. Goble was a farmer and a blacksmith after he left the service. He resided for many years on the farm now owned by John Shular. He left Sevier County and went to Blount Co. Tennessee. He was living there in 1908. He died in Loudon C. Tennessee." ---Fred Matthews.
