Al - This is not my direct line, however, in Sep 2000 I published a book on the Gobers. In my research, I have always wondered how Mary Gober and her two ch, Amanda and John in Ellis Co., TX connected to the Gober Family.
I know John marr c 1895 Jennie _______ who was b in TN and they are found in Ellis County from 1880 through 1920 and apparently never had any ch. In 1861, a Mrs. Mary Dillard marr Francis A. Gober. Am wondering if this Francis A. Gober is the son of Hiram and Elizabeth (Gober) Gober (they were cousins). A Francis A. Gober is shown as having enlisted in Ellis Co., TX in the CSA at age 28. His brother, James Jackson Gober, marr Melinda F. Crawford in Ellis Co., TX in 1874. I have not found Francis A. & Mary _____ Dillard, Gober listed in the 1870 Fed. Census, which certainly would help and have never found Mary after 1880 Fed Cen when only she is listed with her two children.
I was unable to find this Amanda Elizabeth Gober listed in the SSDI records but did find several others. In 1880 Ellis Co., Fed. Census, listed in the hshld of a Davis Family, I did find a Wm Melson age 20 b in IL and listed as a boarder who may be the William Perry Melson who marr Amanda in Ellis Co. in 1881. Any assistance on this line will be appreciated.
