Hi Karla, Before I start...do you have a Glover who could do the DNA test? Drew Welch and I keep hitting brick walls on our Southern Glover research, and we could really use a few volunteers to help us rule out or confirm some of our problem Glover lines. As for my opinion of where your George Glover comes from: This George Glover is living in Fayette Co in 1880 (as you already know of course) George Glover 25 AL Virgia Glover 23 Joseph Glover 4 Rosey Glover 1 There are 2 other Glover families in 1880 Fayette that I don't think are closely related: Julius N Glover, the clergyman from SC, and Richard Glover, whose parents were born in GA. As Virginia "Jennie" states in 1900, she is the mother of 8 children, 7 of whom are still alive. It looks like Joseph Glover is child #1, named for her father, and Rosey is child #2. Rosey might be the child that dies, since this couple later names another daughter Rosa. I wouldn't hold too much weight to the 1900 census where he says he was born in 1848 instead of 1855. I think somebody was just guessing. This George Glover of Fayette says both his parents were born in AL , but it might be that he is just assuming that. It appears that his parents died when he was fairly young, and he may not know much details. I'd start looking at the family of the 1870 census of Mobile Co. AL. It has a George Glover who is 15 years old. It looks like a blended family to me. Loett H Green 24 (Lovett H. Green) Catharine Green 22 (prob a wife ) Mintie Green 18 (probably a nickname for Arminta A.) Geo Glover 15 Harriet Glover 12 Josephine Reil 33 (probably born as Josephine Hanning) (Lovett H. Green was a Civil War Vet enlisted 32nd Inf Co C Mobile AL) In 1860, this family looked like this: Baldwin Co, Alabama Ole W Glover 41 boatman, born NC -----(this is NOT really Ole; it looks more like H. W.) Mary Glover 41 NC Alex Hanning 25 AL Josephine Hanning 22 FL (this is odd) W D Hanning 20 AL Lovett Green 15 AL Mary Green 14 AL Sarah Green 10 AL A A Green 7 AL (her name is probably Arminta "Mintie") George Glover 5 AL Harriet Glover 2 AL I would guess that H. W. is the father of George and Harriett Glover, and that he and his wife Mary will die very soon after this census was taken. (perhaps Civil War related) Since H.W. Glover is a boatman, he might be hard to trace. I can't find him in 1850 as a Head of household or living with anyone else. He might be on a boat somewhere, and was missed in the census taking. Baldwin Co and Mobile Co are adjacent to each other. Also, Baldwin Co is right next to Conecuh Co. If I'm correct, H.W. Glover is the 3rd husband of Mary. Mary's 2nd husband appears to have been a John Green of Conecuh Co AL. 1850 Conecuh County AL (which is next to Baldwin Co) John Green 64 NC overseer Mary Green 34 NC (it's possible that she is either 31 or 34) Eliza Green 14 AL William Green 14AL Jane Green 12 AL Josephine Green 12 AL (later called Josephine Hanning?) Mary Green 3 AL Elizabeth Green 18 AL Sarah Green 1 AL Alexander Green 16 AL (later called Alexander Hanning?) David Green 10 AL (later called W.D. Hanning?) Thomas Green 8 AL Lovette Green 6 AL In my opinion, Eliza Green 18 is his daughter from a previous marriage William Green 14 is his son from a previous marriage Eliza Green 14 is his dau from a previous marriage Jane Green 12 is his dau from a previous marriage (based on 1840 census of the John Green of Conecuh who had 4 children) Alexander 16 is her son from a previous marriage and may be only 14 (a Hanning) Josephine 12 is her daughter from a previous marriage (a Hanning) David 10 is her son from a previous marriage (a Hanning) Thomas 8 is probably their child together.... Lovett 6 is their child together Mary 3 is their child together Sarah 1 is their child together This couple will apparently have one more child together, a girl named "Mintie", in 1852, following which John M. Green will probably die. Somehow, widow Mary Green will meet H. W. Glover in Conecuh and relocate to Baldwin Co by 1854, and give birth to George Glover by 1855. Conecuh County is a burned County, so finding any marriage records for ANYONE is impossible unless you have a bible listing. There was a Geo. W. Glover living in Conecuh in 1840. I can't see his census however. It would be interesting to see if he had an unmarried brother in his household. Also, I'm not so sure that Hanning is the correct spelling of Mary's children from her first marriage. I would like to trace them, but it's proving very difficult with that spelling. Anyway.....this was rather long...sorry I couldn't get you back any earlier in time to the parents of H. W. Glover. Notify Administrator about this message?
