Hi Simon,
I found your website and wanted to get in touch since I too am currently looking at the GLINN surname. I'm researching for my sister-in-law whose family originate from Devon/Cornwall.
Her mother was born Iris Rowe, offspring of George Mashford Rowe and Sarah Olive Hocking.
George's parents were Walter Mashford Rowe and Ellen Glinn (married in 1884).
Ellen's parents were Edward Glinn and Elizabeth Hardy (married in 1845)
Edward, born in 1821 in Cawsand, Cornwall, was a Trinity Pilot.
In the 1851 census he was a pilot in Devon, living at Buringdom Arms, Plympton St Mary.
In the 1861 census he was a pilot in (identified as GLEEN in the Ancestry transcription) living in Turnchapel with a large family. Ellen was 8 months old.
In the 1871 census he was identified as a Trinity Pilot, living in Turnchapel Row. His son Edward was a mariner.
By 1881 his wife Elizabeth was a widow, still in Turnchapel. Her son George Thorn Glinn was a Clerk with the Great Western Railway company.Elizabeth's brothers were living with them too, confirming the name Hardy. Elizabeth and her brothers were all born in Cawsand too.
She appears to have eventually moved to Uxbridge to live with her son, George, and died in Dec 1907 - a good innings.
So far I've not managed to take the family any further back.
I don't know if this family is connected to yours at all but thought I'd pass on the information just in case.
With best wishes
