WELLS – Doris Virginia (Glidden) Goodwin, 90, of Hillside Street, died the evening of June 12, 2005 at York Hospital following a brief illness.
She was born in South Effingham, N.H. on July 21, 1914, a daughter of Fred Colley and Edna (Wentworth Philpot) Glidden.
On May 31, 1941, she married Lee Wendell Goodwin. He died in 1989.
She held several jobs over the course of her lifetime, most in the area of bookkeeping. She was employed by Central Maine Power Company, Springvale Public Library, and Springvale National Bank (now known as Key Bank).
She was a very caring person and thoroughly enjoyed helping others. She and her husband delivered Meals on Wheels. She was a Gray Lady at Goodall Hospital, a trustee and volunteer at the Wells Public Library, a Girl Scout leader, and for many years volunteered at Laudholm Farm in Wells.
She was a member of the Eastern Star. In addition to reading, and doing things for others, she was very talented at handwork and made many afghans, sweaters, and mittens for church fairs.
She was pre-deceased by a brother, Ray Glidden, and a sister, Bernice Glidden Vennard.
Survivors include one daughter, Cynthia Goodwin Riley of Wells; one grandson, Thomas L.G. Riley of Portland; and one sister, Velma Glidden Carr of Dover, N.H.
There are no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, Alfred. No flowers, please.
