You were quite right. Agnes parents were Archibald and Jane (or Jean). I had no record of her and have not found any reference to her in OPR, but this week I got a copy of John Glendinning from Effgill's will . In fact there are two Johns, but the one that matters is old John who was born in 1734 and died unmarried in 1811. He had an estate of over £5000 to leave and no children so distributed it to all his nieces and nephews, among whom were the following Laidlaws: Walter, Andrew, Elizabeth, Jean, and John's widow Margaret (it looks like Burnet). So I searched for these children with a Glendinning mother and found Agnes Glendinning and Andrew Laidlaw. This would make Agnes a sister of this John Glendinning and daughter of Archibald Glendinning and Jane Beatty. Her other siblings were Janet who married Simon Little in 1758, James b 1731 and presumed died before Dec 1738 and James b 17 Dec 1738 married Isabel Beattie, my 4g-grandparents.
Archibald Glendinning is son of James Glendinning and Agnes Little from Westerkirk. I have details of most of their descendants on my web site at www.cults.freeserve.co.uk/ancestry/glenfam but these Laidlaws are not added yet.
Any info on the Laidlaw descendants would be appreciated. Maybe easier to email me direct rather than post here.
