To Debi,
I tried sending this information to your new email address listed on a reply, but it bounced back to me as undeliverable.
Subject: So Freeborn and Sophia were brother and sister?

Hi Debi,
Thanks for responding to my message-post. How are you, cousin? Much of my information about Freeborn was researched by a cousin of mine in California. I helped her with the local background. We are descendants from Freeborn through his daughter, Etola Elizabeth (Gleason) Ballard who married Stephen Ballard from Washington, Fillmore County, MN. Etola and Stephen are buried in the Washington (now a ghost town) Cemetery with Stephen's family.

Freeborn Strait Gleason - b. 14-Dec-1830 in Wyoming County, NY / Married Elizabeth Rowe 16-June-1852 in Oswego, IL (Kendall County) / Civil War Veteran, mustered out of Illinois / Member of Civil War Veteran's organization in Fillmore County, MN / Died 1-May-1911 and is buried in Spring Valley Cemetery (Fillmore County) with a Grand Army of the Republic headstone.

Until your email, I did not know Freeborn's father's name. Ryan must have re-married to Sophia's mother. There is a family rumor that Freeborn's mother may have been part Delaware Indian.
I am slow with genealogy, too. My twin sons are grown now, but I work full time and volunteer all over. Research takes so much time! I'm sure you know. But I live in Chatfield, MN, three blocks from Fillmore County and will do local research for you. I will take a picture of Freeborn & Elizabeth Gleason's cemetery stone and send it to you. Where is Sophia buried? I can take a picture of that stone, too. It's great to speak with a Gleason cousin. Let me know how this information fits with yours.
Sincerely, Jolyn "Mimi" Seamens
